finAPI GiroIdent Youth Protection: KJM gives positive rating to new solution for online age verification

Easy age verification and identity check via online banking

The Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media (KJM) has positively evaluated finAPI GiroIdent Youth Protection as age verification system (AVS concept) for closed user groups in private broadcasting and  telemedia. With finAPI GiroIdent Youth Protection, the user’s name, address, and date of birth can be verified online within seconds by logging into the user’s online banking account once and comparing the data with the SCHUFA database. After a successful age check, youth-protected content can be activated directly or the online purchase of goods from the age of 18 can be approved.

"With the positive evaluation of our finAPI GiroIdent youth protection product by the KJM, we can guarantee online merchants a fast and legally compliant age verification. Both providers and customers of age-protected content benefit from this simple verification method."

Legally compliant age verification in a seamless online process within seconds

Also online, products with age restrictions may not be sold to children or young people. Instead of showing their ID, customers can use finAPI GiroIdent Youth Protection to easily and conveniently prove their age online to the online store. For the age verification, the customer is redirected to a secure website of finAPI GmbH. There he or she logs into his or her online banking and finAPI matches the name of the customer with the name of the account holder. If the data match, the so-called SCHUFA-Q-bit is retrieved. This confirms that the customer’s identity has been previously confirmed via face-to-face ID checks, e.g. when opening an account. The process takes only a few seconds, so that the order or activation of the desired content can be completed quickly and at the same time in a legally secure manner in compliance with the German Youth Protection Act (JuSchG) and the Interstate Treaty on the Protection of Minors in the Media (JMStV).

White labeling and the combination with payments for enhanced usability in online stores

finAPI GiroIdent Youth Protection is available as a white label solution, so that the design can be individually tailored to the individual look and feel of the online store. In addition, this age check can be conveniently combined with finAPI’s payment solutions.

"The demands of customers in e-commerce continue to increase. In addition to the payment offer, it is primarily the smooth process in the check-out that influences whether the purchase is actually completed. For this reason, age verification and payment by online bank transfer or real-time transfer via finAPI can be smartly combined in a single process," says Peter Hiekmann.

According to the application and required security level, finAPI offers further GiroIdent products for online identification: from name or address verification to full KYC verification in accordance with the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
