Verification of Payee
As of 9 October 2025, payee verification became mandatory for SEPA credit transfers. The aim of the EU regulation is to make transfers, especially instant payments, more secure, to prevent misdirected payments and to strengthen fraud prevention in payment transactions.
With the VoP Service from finAPI, banks and payment service providers can meet these requirements reliably and efficiently. The solution is designed for maximum security, easy integration and full regulatory compliance.
The VoP service is aimed at all banks and payment service providers with their own PSD2 license. Customers who use finAPI’s PSD2 license and webform automatically benefit from the VoP check, as finAPI, as a licensed payment initiation service, carries out the check for its non-licensed customers.
Within seconds, the VoP Service checks whether the entered name plausibly matches the recipient’s IBAN. The result is displayed immediately, so the payer can decide whether to proceed with or cancel the payment.
The IBAN and the name are a complete match.
The name partially matches. There may be minor discrepancies or spelling errors.
The IBAN and the name do not match.
The verification could not be completed, for example because the recipient’s bank does not participate in the VoP scheme.
